I worked as Creative Supervisor on the Spy Ops project and helped develop the visual concept for the graphics, VFX, and CGI elements used in the series. The project was created for the production company Insomnia Production, and the result is an eight-episode documentary series about the espionage operations of intelligence agencies around the world. The series premiered on Netflix.

About
"Spy Ops" is a documentary series that reveals the real-life operations of global intelligence agencies such as the CIA, MI6, Mossad, and the SVR. The series focuses on significant espionage missions, the people involved, and their historical contexts. The series’ visual graphics help viewers navigate the various operations, characters, and geographical contexts.
The production team needed to create a visual graphic system that would:
enhance the suspense and atmosphere of a spy thriller
visually unify graphic elements across episodes
be compatible with the series’ documentary style
enable the efficient production of a large number of graphic outputs
At the same time, the graphics had to appear authentic and reflect the world of intelligence services.

First, I created a visual concept for the graphics, which was subsequently approved by the client.
The visual style was inspired by the aesthetics of the 1980s and 1990s, with an emphasis on:
the textures of paper and documents
archival materials
intelligence files and classified documents
The color palette was based primarily on a green-yellow color grading that evokes a military and intelligence setting.
After the concept was approved, I prepared After Effects templates that enabled the efficient production of individual graphic elements.
In total, more than 50 graphic outputs were created, such as:
hero graphics depicting the main characters
stylized ID cards for intelligence agents
lower thirds graphics
map visualizations of operations
3D CGI sequences
For more complex 3D scenes, we first created storyboards in collaboration with an illustrator, followed by playblasts from 3D artists, which served as the basis for the final CGI production.
In addition to supervising production, I also personally contributed to the creation of some graphic elements.

Results
The result is a cohesive visual design system that enhances the series’ dramatic atmosphere and helps viewers navigate the various storylines, characters, and historical events. The designed style unified all graphic elements across episodes and enabled the efficient production of a large volume of visual content.

Key Takeaways
The project provided experience primarily in the following areas:
leading the creative process within a large production team
creating visuals for television and streaming productions
coordinating the VFX and motion design pipeline
working with a large number of graphic assets
working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines
